Information for New Starters

Please click a topic below for more information.

  • School Times

The school day begins at 8.45am and ends at 3.15pm.

Entry to the school and classrooms is from 8.40am and the teachers greet the children each morning. The doors close at 8.45am.

At home time (3.15pm), the children who are going on to After School Club are escorted there. The teachers take the rest of the children to be collected. Children should be collected at 3.15pm.

  • Wrap-around Childcare

Our wrap around care provides after school childcare from 3.15-6pm and Breakfast Club from 7.30am.

  • Parking

Unfortunately, there is no parking available for parents on the school site. We encourage you to walk, cycle or scoot to school where possible. Bikes and scooters can be left under the shelter area in the main playground. Bikes and scooters are left at your own risk.

  • Illness at school

If your child becomes ill at school we will telephone you or one of your named contacts to ask that he/she is collected.

  • Fruit an Milk

We offer free fruit and milk to all EYFS and KS1 children in school during their breaktime.

  • Water Bottles

Children should come to school with a water bottle with a healthy, non-fizzy drink inside it. This will be refilled with drinking water throughout the day.

  • Lunches

We fully embrace the standards for food in schools and as all children in school are entitled to a free meal all children in school sit and eat lunch together.

We are able to meet the vast majority of religious dietary and medical dietary needs such as allergies but please speak to the office if you have any concerns.

  • Absence from School

If your child is unwell he/she needs to be kept away from school. At school we need to keep a record of absences so please telephone us on the first morning of absence. There is a voicemail facility for absences. If we are not informed of a reason for absence it is recorded as unauthorised (truancy). The registers are regularly checked by Surrey’s Inclusion Officer.

If a child has been physically sick or had diarrhea he/she should not return to school for 48 hours from the last bout.

Wherever possible medical appointments, such as dentist and optician, should be made outside of school times. Where this is not possible children should be collected and dropped off again to ensure the minimum amount of school time is missed.

All term-time holidays are unauthorised. If you require a leave of absence form, please contact the office.

  • Allergies and Medicines

Please let us know if your child suffers from any allergies or medical conditions.

If a child needs to complete a course of prescription medicine but is fit enough to be at school, we are happy to administer this but must have signed written consent from you to include the timing and dosage. A form is available from the school office. Parents should hand the medicine into the school office at the start of the day and collect it at the end of the day.

Non-prescription medicines will only be administered in exceptional circumstances and must be authorised by the headteacher. An example of where this would be acceptable is for a paracetamol medicine for pain control following injuries.

If your child needs an inhaler or epipen please ask your doctor for additional supplies so that they can be stored in the office. Please place the inhaler and spacer/epipens in a named bag, in the original packaging clearly showing the child’s name and include dosage information.

  • Toys and other personal belongings

Unless requested by the child’s teacher the children should not bring toys or other valuable personal possessions to school.

  • School visits and visitors to school

The classes undertake educational visits from time to time. Also visitors such as theatre groups come into school. These are very valuable learning experiences.

In common with other schools we cannot undertake these activities without asking you for voluntary contributions to cover costs. A letter is always sent prior to the trip or visit.

  • Communication

If at any time you have any questions or concerns please do talk to the class teacher. We have a very open policy and school staff will be pleased to answer any questions that you may have.

Class teachers take the children out into the playground at 3.15pm so please feel free to have a quick word with the teacher then. If you need to talk about a matter in a more private location please ask the class teacher for an appointment.

Class teachers are also happy to communicate with parents by telephone or via e-mail.

Every term parents are given the opportunity to talk to the class teacher(s) about the progress of their individual child.

  • Personal Information

We do need to keep information such as home address, telephone number and emergency contact information.  From time to time the office will send out a copy of the information that we hold but if there are any changes during the year please let them know.

In line with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) you will receive a privacy notice containing full information on how the information is stored and used.
